Two members of the public have been killed in the London Bridge terror attack, sources have said.
Police confirmed earlier today that a male suspect had been shot dead by officers during the response to the incident.
Scotland Yard added that a number of people had been stabbed during the rampage.
Whitehall sources have now said that two victims have died.
Sadiq Khan, London Mayor, had said earlier that some of the victims had been injured “seriously”.
He also hailed the “breathtaking heroism” of those who intervened before the suspect was shot dead by police.
The London Ambulance Service declared it a major incident. One picture on social media appeared to show a body covered with a blanket.
One office worker told the Standard: “When we were evacuated out of the office after being locked down, we could see two bodies under covers.”
Several people were stabbed by the knifeman before he was grappled to the ground and disarmed by members of the public on London Bridge .
Footage on social media showed one man being urged to move away by armed officers before the suspect was shot at point-blank range.
Another bystander could be seen carrying a large knife from the scene.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson also joined in the widespread praise of the members of the public who intervened.
Eye-witnesses said the suspect appeared to be wearing a suicide vest but Neil Basu, the head of UK counter-terrorism policing, said the vest was a fake.
He said police were called at around 2pm on Friday to a stabbing “at a premises near London Bridge”.
The bridge was the scene of a terror attack in 2017 – also during a general election campaign – when eight victims were killed along with the three terrorists, who were also wearing fake suicide vests and armed with knives.
Speaking in Downing Street, Mr Johnson said: “To the best of our knowledge the incident has been contained and I pay tribute again to the work of the police and the emergency services and what they have done.
“But I would urge everybody, of course, to be vigilant and one cannot help but think back to what happened in 2017 in the same part of the city and I hope very much that people will be able as fast as possible to go about their normal business.”
The Independent Office for Police Conduct watchdog said it has launched an investigation into the police shooting of the London Bridge attacker which is standard for such incidents.
Witnesses described a scene of panic around London Bridge , moments after the incident.
Nurse Jackie Bensfield, 32, described how she asked to be let off a bus on London Bridge after she heard “five or six” gunshots.
Ms Bensfield, who was on her way home from work, said she exited the bus and “ran like hell” to escape the shots.
Cecilia Sodero was on the top deck of a bus going over London Bridge when she heard shots and saw a man lying on the ground with a “very scary device, like a bomb device”.
She told Sky News she saw “six people holding someone on the floor”, adding: “At some point someone says ‘oh, he has a knife’, and we were like, oh my gosh, this guy is supposed to stab someone and people was running away.

Explosive testimony given in a Federal Court accusing Representative Ilhan Omar of taking bribes from Qatar in exchange for leaking sensitive intelligence and influencing U.S. policy should be investigated by the FBI.
If these accusations are correct, they should serve as a warning bell for the United States and for anyone who cares about the effects of U.S. policy on the world. Selling access to power to the patrons of the Muslim Brotherhood cannot be laughed off as a trivial matter, but must be investigated with the full force of the law.
According to prominent businessman Alan Bender in a legal deposition last month, Qatari spymaster Mohammad Al-Masnad boasted of bribing politicians and journalists across America, and incorporating them into a vast campaign of disinformation and propaganda. Rep. Omar is allegedly the “jewel in the crown,” and actively recruits other elected officials into Qatar’s scheme, Bender said in sworn testimony, revealed by Al Arabiya English.
A certain level of “dirty politics” is a hazard of any government, democracies included. And American democracy is particularly vulnerable, since the U.S. Constitution protects the rights of citizens to petition their officials and lobby for changes. If citizens decide that they can more effectively advocate for change by hiring a professional to meet with officials on their behalf, there is nothing wrong with that. And thus we get lobbyists, who make money from their ability to access politicians and change their minds.
And it is only natural that foreign governments would hire lobbyists as well, or otherwise try to influence elected officials. American policy has tremendous effects across the world, for good and ill. There is too much at stake for a government not to fight for a place at the table. So when Qatar was cut off by its GCC neighbors in 2017— at one point threatening the survival of the ruling regime itself — no one can blame them for trying their hardest to get America on its side.
But we needn’t blame criminals to convict them of crimes. There is a world of difference between persuasion and bribery, which is why offering bribes is just as illegal as taking them. If Qatari agents (or anyone else, for that matter) stepped over the line into bribery, we need to uncover their schemes and punish them.
And we certainly can blame those politicians and journalists who go beyond the usual favor-trading, and sell their legitimate authority for pay. When elected officials choose to accept bribes from a foreign power that does not have their country’s interests at heart, they are allowing their greed to pervert American policy and even to destroy lives. This is particularly true when taking bribes from Qatar, which has a long history of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaida and other violent groups.
If Bender’s accusations are true, Rep. Omar’s offense is even worse. Bad enough to satisfy your personal greed by changing your own votes, or passing classified data, with all the contempt for your constituents that such corruption would imply. But to actively recruit other lawmakers to betray their voters and their country turns you from a mere participant in crime into a conspirator. The FBI must investigate thoroughly—if for no other reason than to remove the cloud of suspicion from Rep. Omar’s head if she is innocent.
The massive Qatari influence operation in the West is becoming more widely understood as time goes on. But we mostly know about the legal, public steps that Qatar has taken. If even small elements of Bender’s testimony are accurate, then there is a whole underworld of criminal corruption still to uncover. The lawsuit against Sheikh Khalid Al-Thani, a member of the Qatari royal family who is accused of mistreating American employees and even ordering them to commit murder, is an important first step.
Bender claims that Sheikh Khalid and his American company, KH Holdings, were important nodes in Qatar’s bribery network. Khalid is currently being kept in Qatar, away from American law enforcement, but his company’s dealings in the United States ought to be an open book to investigators. Any records that can be recovered from or about KH Holdings—money transfers, gifts of property, sponsored travel or vacations—may prove crucial in revealing the web of corruption that Bender alleges. And if public figures are proven to take foreign money to influence our policies, they belong in jail, not in office.
As a country, we depend on our elected officials to uphold American interests first and foremost. If there is any danger of corruption at the highest levels of government, our law-enforcement officials need to expose it to the sunlight and protect the integrity of American politics. Otherwise, the entire world will be at the mercy of whichever foreign power has the biggest briefcase of cash, and the biggest address book of corrupt politicians. If such concerns warrant impeaching a President over, they warrant investigating members of Congress as well—starting with Ilhan Omar.

According to the Washington Post Eric Ciaramella worked late in his cubicle at the CIA headquarters for two weeks before submitting his complaint against President Trump.
During that same time period Ciaramella, who was not on the Trump-Zelensky call, was meeting with Adam Schiff’s office in planning the attack on the US president.
And now what was once rumored appears to be true — that Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman was speaking with Ciaramella and may be his source for this latest attack on President Trump.
This information was leaked by the CIA plotters to their comrades at the Washington Post.

The whistleblower whose complaint has shaken the foundations of Donald Trump’s presidency is a male officer of the Central Intelligence Agency who was seconded to the White House, the New York Times reported Thursday.
The man “was detailed to work at the White House at one point” but has since returned to the CIA, the Times said, citing three people familiar with his identity.
The complaint, which describes Trump using his powers to pressure the government to find damaging information on Democratic political rival Joe Biden, “suggested he was an analyst by training and made clear he was steeped in details of American foreign policy toward Europe,” the Times said.
He also was clearly knowledgable about Ukrainian and Washington’s relations with Kiev, which Trump is accused of manipulating to gain advantage in next year’s presidential election.
It was the first indication of the whistleblower’s identity, other than previous statements saying it was either a man or a woman from the nearly million-strong intelligence community.
The person’s identity is protected by US laws supporting officials who go through proper channels to report gross misconduct by their colleagues or superiors.
But the person is expected to testify soon behind closed doors in Congress, raising the prospect of exposure as more and more people learn their identity.
CNN and MSDNC’s talking heads seemed surprised and disappointed that the recent televised impeachment hearings do not appear to have moved any but a small number of Republicans into supporting the impeachment and removal of the demented fascist oligarch Donald Trump. Liberals roll their eyes while discussing surveys showing that Republican voters are unmoved by clear evidence of Trump’s corrupt conduct in trying to extort political dirt on Joe Biden out of Ukraine with the bribe of American missiles.
But there’s nothing remotely surprising about Republican Amerikaners’ refusal to abandon their Great Tangerine God in the wake of the daytime UkraineGate television show. It’s not just that the most ordinary people of any (or no) political party don’t have time to stay seated for hours in front of telescreens during the workday. Equally significant is the ongoing savage partisan polarization of U.S. politics, so extreme that Trump could commit almost any crime (dare I say “shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue”?) without losing Republican backing (just as President Barack Obama could have done very little that would have cost him the support of mainstream “liberal” Democrats.) Partisan polarization has been erasing red lines on executive branch behavior for quite some time when it comes to voters and presidents in the same party.
Another factor is the related extreme partisan polarization of U.S. political media. Liberals get their political news and commentary from CNN, MSDNC and (further up the class pyramid) the New York Times and Washington Post. Republicans take their political news and commentary from FOX News, right-wing talk radio, and other starboard outlets where media operatives take their cue from Dear Leader Donald by reporting and discussing UkraineGate as nothing more than a silly but vicious Democratic “hoax” and “witch hunt. The right-wing media bubble relays and amplifies the Trumpified Republican Party’s preposterous assaults on establishment UkraineGate whistleblowers and witnesses as “partisan Democrats” and “Never Trumpers” (a truly strange term of supposed abuse). It spins wild right-wing conspiracy theories that both influence and reflect the paranoid-style mind of the neofascistic president himself.
Also relevant is the very different way in which the nation’s white Trumpenvolk understand the problem and meaning of corruption. Trumpists think that Caucasians are becoming a besieged minority targeted for discrimination by “politically correct” liberal and left elites who are turning the nation against proper white values, culture, needs, rights and prerogatives. This “reverse discrimination” victim-whiteness (devoid of evidence for its claims) informs the Trump base’s understanding of the meaning of the word “corruption” in ways the liberal writer Peter Beinart captured well after Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen testified to Congress about his collaboration with the president in the classically corrupt violation of campaign finance laws. For Trump’s base, Beinart wrote in August of 2018, the idea of corruption isn’t so much about politics and the law as it is about racial and gender purity:
Trump violated established presidential and foreign policy norms by trying to trade arms to Ukraine in return for political filth on Biden. Even for Trumpenvolk who are willing to acknowledge this impeachable offense, however, it’s a big so what? The corruption that matters to Trump’s heavily identity-politicized “heartland” base is the purported liberal and left-led assault on and erosion of white-male supremacism. Donito Assolini is the Amerikaner cohort’s anti-corruption crusader, nobly dedicated to making White Men Supreme Again.
Alongside the polarized partisans, there’s also a vast swath of Americans who checked out from the nation’s nonstop media-politics circus long ago. Their opinions on Trumpeachment ala Pelosi and Schiff (TAPS) haven’t moved because they couldn’t have cared less before it started and couldn’t care less now. They don’t see why UkraineGate matters – an all-too understandable sentiment since the Democrats are pursuing impeachment over a relatively small and very intra-elite crime among Trump’s long list of more socially, morally, and environmentally significant transgressions.
Meanwhile, as U.S. public Trump opinion remains largely unchanged in the face of the non-stop Trumpeachment carnival, the media can barely bring itself to report a recent United Nations warning that global temperatures are on pace to rise as much as 3.9 degrees Celsius (7 degrees Fahrenheit) by the end of the century – a “catastrophic” rate of increase that calls for urgent global efforts to reduce greenhouse emissions.

It turns out that the connections between President Donald Trump and Turkey are even stranger than we thought.
Consider the recent histories of two powerful Washington lobbying groups: Mercury and Ballard.
Brian Ballard is a heavyweight lobbyist who was featured Politico’s Playbook Power list in 2018, dubbed as “The Most Powerful Lobbyist in Trump’s Washington,” for his influence over the administration. He had been a major fundraiser for the Trump campaign and chairman of Trump’s campaign in Florida.
The government of Qatar is one of Ballard’s clients, and so was the government of Turkey until last month. Turkey alone paid roughly $2 million to Ballard’s firm over the last two years. The relationship between Turkey and Ballard ended after Turkey’s state-run bank Halkbank (which at the time had also been Ballard’s client) was indicted in federal court for evading U.S. sanctions against Iran.
The sanctions-evasion scheme had been spearheaded by Reza Zarrab, a Turkey-based gold trader who was born in Iran. Zarrab, of course, was later represented by Rudy Giuliani, the President’s personal attorney.
The connections between Trump, Ballard, and Turkey go beyond Giuliani, though. In January, Brian Ballard hired Pam Bondi to be a member of his lobbying group.
You may remember Bondi because in 2016, she was briefly in the national news. In 2014, as the sitting attorney general in Florida, Bondi’s office had been investigating complaints against “Trump University.” Bondi personally solicited a campaign donation from Donald Trump. He wrote her PAC a check for $25,000. And a few days later—presto!—Bondi’s office announced that they were no longer pursuing the investigation against Trump University.
The entire affair was so corrupt-looking that ethics complaints were filed against Bondi with the Florida Commission on Ethics, the Florida Elections Commission, and the Florida Bar.
Fast forward to January 2019. After joining Ballard Partners, Bondi registered as a foreign agent for Qatar. And just last week, she left her lobbying position to join the White House as a member of Trump’s impeachment defense team.
The other firm of note is Mercury Public Affairs, which is one of the three lobbying firms Paul Manafort used to boost the image of Russia. Two of Mercury’s other clients are the governments of Qatar and Turkey. Mercury’s managing director is Bryan Lanza, who joined Mercury in 2017. Before that, he was an adviser to Trump’s transition team. Before that, he worked for the Trump campaign.
And before that, he worked for Trump’s deputy campaign manager, David Bossie, when they were both at Citizens United SuperPAC.
Lanza is currently also a registered agent for the state-sponsored Turkish American Business Council (TAIK), a party involved in the aforementioned indictment with close with Erdogan. TAIK also has close ties with Jared Kushner, who runs America’s “backdoor” channel to the Turkish government.
